Nieuwsbegrip is a site where children can learn Dutch vocabulary and language by completing assignments and reading texts. I received the assignment to work with four other students to improve their website. The goal was to better support children who need extra assistance with this redesign.
To ensure that more children can use Nieuwsbegrip, we looked into the different needs of children. Through interviews and various tests with the children, I discovered what they need to engage with Nieuwsbegrip. Children indicated that they often find the assignments "boring" to complete. Through research and testing with the users of Nieuwsbegrip, I tested various motivating aspects and observed how they resonated with the children.
By motivating the children to use Nieuwsbegrip, a game aspect has been added. By collecting points through completing assignments, the children can earn accessories to customize their avatar, and much more.
